Which foreign health insurance schemes are valid in Germany?
For students from the European Union, it is enough to have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Germany has a social security agreement with other member states of the European Union or the European Economic Area that allows the EHIC to be used in Germany. The EHIC is on the back of the insurance card or can be requested from your local health insurance company.
With the EHIC, Erasmus students are eligible for medical services at the same conditions and costs as those insured under a German public health insurance scheme. However, due to different health care systems in the EU member states, there may be differences in the coverage of costs for services.
