English Studies, American Studies
This field of study deals with the literature and language of the English-speaking world, such as Great Britain or North America. At the same time, it also includes topics in which the English language has played an important role. Courses of study such as English Studies focus on Great Britain, while American Studies deals with the area of North America and partly also Canada. Another column in this programme is Ancient American Studies, which focuses on the history, language, and culture of ancient advanced civilizations such as the Aztecs, Maya, or Incas. Unlike English and American Studies, however, this programme is very rare and therefore only represented at a few universities.
