The Friedrich Ebert Foundation offers various scholarships, including the Begabtenförderungswerk for particularly gifted German and foreign students, the Graduiertenförderungswerk for German and foreign doctoral students, and the Aufstiegsstipendium for those with professional experience who want to start a degree programme. The Foundation particularly supports students who distinguish themselves through commitment to the Foundation's goals, such as social justice, peace and democracy.
Study prerequisites
The Friedrich Ebert Foundation supports foreign applicants who are already studying or doing their PhD in Germany at a state or state-recognized university or college. Outstanding academic and study-related achievements and initial transcripts are expected. Commitment to the values of social democracy is another requirement.
Excellent German language skills must be demonstrated, even if the studies are conducted in English. The Freidrich Ebert Foundation accepts up to 40 individuals from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe into their funding program each year.
