The Heinrich Böll Foundation awards various scholarship programmes aimed at different target groups. Here are some examples:
- Studienwerk: The Heinrich Böll Foundation's Studienwerk supports students and doctoral candidates who show a special commitment to society and who are pursuing above-average studies. The funding is directed at all disciplines
- Doctoral sponsorship: The Heinrich Böll Foundation's doctoral sponsorship is aimed at doctoral students who are working on topics in the fields of ecology, economics, social sciences and humanities, art and culture.
- Scholarships abroad: The Heinrich Böll Foundation's scholarships abroad support students and doctoral candidates who are planning a study or research stay abroad and are concerned with issues of sustainability and international cooperation.
- Journalism bursaries: The Heinrich Böll Foundation also awards bursaries to journalists who deal with political, social and ecological issues
- Educational scholarships: The Heinrich Böll Foundation also supports people who want to further their education in vocational training and who are socially engaged
Study prerequisites

- Social commitment: The Foundation expects applicants to have a high level of social commitment and interest in political, social and ecological issues.
- Achievements: Applicants should be able to demonstrate above-average performance in school, studies or work experience
- Professional qualifications: Depending on the scholarship programme, specialist qualifications are also expected, such as a completed degree, an ongoing doctoral project or journalistic training
- Sustainability: The Heinrich Böll Foundation places a special focus on sustainability and expects applicants to be interested in ecological, social and economic sustainability issues.
- Personality: In addition, applicants are expected to have a high level of social competence and the ability to work in a team, to have strong communication and organisational skills, and to have a clear motivation and goal for the scholarship.
