Description of the programme
The right know-how: In the study programme Sign Language Interpreting (B.A.) you will acquire valuable knowledge in the field of German Sign Language and interpreting. This includes linguistics, the history and culture of the sign language community. The focus of the study programme is on the activity of interpreting.
Further contents: You learn the theoretical basics of sign language interpreting and apply your knowledge practically. Scientific work and sharpening your communication skills round off the programme. These modules are also on the curriculum:
- Breath, voice and speech in a professional context
- Basics of translation studies
- Translational techniques
- Signing adapted to the situation and the recipient
- Simultaneous voicing
- Simultaneous signing
Practical relevance: Through a total of four internships, you will get to know the areas of application for sign language interpreters and experience the everyday life of interpreters at first hand.

Career prospects: Upon completion of the study programme, you are qualified to work as an interpreter. The Federal Association of Sign Language Interpreters in Germany (Bundesverband der GebärdensprachdolmetscherInnen Deutschlands e.V.) officially recognises you as a sign language interpreter. Accreditations & awards
All study programmes at the Hochschule Fresenius are accredited before they start for the first time and then regularly checked for conformity with the regulations.
