University profile
The Hochschule Fresenius developed from the Fresenius Chemical Laboratory founded by Carl Remigius Fresenius in 1848 and can look back on more than 170 years of educational tradition as a private institution in Germany. It is thus the oldest educational institution of its kind in the field of Chemistry. In the spirit of its founder Carl Remigius Fresenius, it combines teaching, research, and practice. The name Fresenius stands for practice-oriented teaching with closely linked applied research and development. This applies to the traditional Department of Chemistry & Biology as well as to the two new Departments of Health & Social Services and Business & Media, which were established in 1997/98, and the new Department of Design, which was integrated in 2013. Since 2016, the university has also been offering an innovative online study concept: onlineplus is the fifth and youngest department.
On this basis, in consultation with its partners in practice and in dialogue with associations, alumni, and students, the Hochschule Fresenius has continuously developed its range of services and its strategic orientation. In doing so, it is equally oriented towards the goals of sustainability and innovation. The motto of the Hochschule Fresenius is: ‘Practical teaching and research, living internationality, challenging and supporting students!’
