B.A. Photography (EN)

Study programme of UE University of Europe for Applied Sciences

We are in a cultural and historical period in which our society is surrounded and influenced by a wealth of photography like never before. We see it as our task to give students an understanding of the visual and technical skills necessary to understand, critically question, and reflect on different visual languages. Understanding the medium of photography and its conscious use are therefore indispensable not only in art, but also in advertising and editorial work.

Description of the programme

The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) has a pioneering study programme in this field. We were among the first German private universities to establish a photography programme. During your studies, you’ll familiarise yourself with and try out various photographic genres, such as portrait, fashion, art, and documentary. Our university focuses on your development. That's why we teach in small learning groups and in a friendly and personal atmosphere. We’ll oversee your individual development process and help you define your talents and strengths, while helping you develop your own visual signature. You will be taught by renowned photographers and study at a campus that is centrally located, equipped with the latest technology (photo studio, print & scan lab, dark room, camera equipment, MacPools, etc.), and that is known for its international and English-speaking character.

Why enrolling in this programme?

Our aim is to help students develop an individual photographic stance and an independent position. To maintain the courage to experiment and cross borders and to be aware of your social and societal responsibility as a photographer. Students get to know the diverse genres of photography such as documentary, staging, applied or artistic photography. The design of the programme is open and also offers the possibility of taking interdisciplinary elective subjects in other courses. In addition to imparting theoretical and practical knowledge, our support not only plays a major role in university-internal, but also in external exhibition projects.

Semester abroad & internship

Internship semester or semester abroad - 5th Semester

Study abroad at any of our partner universities in Europe, North America, Australia or Asia. You will choose your courses beforehand, which will normally be accepted upon your return. You are required to earn 30 credit points or their equivalent while studying abroad.

If none of our partner universities appeals to you, other alternatives are possible. Bear in mind that these other universities must meet certain accreditation criteria to ensure an equivalent academic standard. Plus, the application process entails more work and effort on your part. For your convenience, we always recommend you select one of our partner universities.

UE students can choose between a practical semester and a semester abroad. It is also possible to do an internship abroad instead of studying abroad.
